Information for SOMA members graduating in 2011
For all SOMA students completing their studies at the end of 2011, AOA membership forms and 2011 Graduate Packages relating to registration, insurance etc, have been couriered to your SOMA rep to distribute.

This year, some of the complications concerning registration, joining the AOA and insurance have been removed whereby you can now apply to AHPRA for registration 4-6 weeks prior to completing your course.
The AOA is offering graduating SOMA members a special rate…..join the AOA by 19 December 2011 and save over $95! (AOA Student membership expires December 2011)
Save money, delays and complications - join by 19 December 2010 and only pay the February 2012 fee.
Whilst you cannot practice before your full, practising AHPRA registration has been granted, in the interim you will be able to apply for membership of the AOA and therefore be entitled to apply for the AOA Guild insurance policy.
Membership Fees
The AOA membership year runs from 1 July – 30 June. Current SOMA members are exempt from the $165 joining fee until COB on 31 March 2012.

For current SOMA members graduating in 2011:
Join by COB 19 December 2011; only pay the $241.67 February 2012 rate (Membership valid to 30 June 2012)

Membership Type
As a new Graduate, your membership type is 1st Year in Practice.
Join by COB 19 December 2011 and you will be entitled to 1st Year in Practice membership rates for up to 18 months.
Qualifications
The AOA will receive a list of graduating students direct from the University and will accept this as evidence of your qualification for membership application purposes.
Registration
Current National Registration is a condition of membership of the AOA.
You can now apply to AHPRA for registration 4-6 weeks prior to completing your course -www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Graduate-Applications.aspx.
Once you have received confirmation of your AHPRA registration, please advise the AOA via email on aoa@osteopathic.com.au.
Insurance
Your Student membership number does not entitle you to the reduced Professional Indemnity Insurance.
Take advantage of the special membership offer above to be entitled to receive the AOA Guild insurance policy.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
Puggy Hunter Memorial ScholarshipsThese scholarships will provide Aboriginal or Torres Strait students of Osteopathy a grant of up to $15,000 per annum for the usual duration of their course. Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health
Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH) is the national manager of three Australian Government funded scholarship programs. They are three components of the suite of long term initiatives by the Australian Government to increase the number of health professionals in rural and remote areas of Australia.
On line applications for the Undergraduate Allied Health Scholarship are anticipated to open on Monday 12 September 2011 and close on 17 October 2011.
This scholarship provides assistance for people living in rural, remote, and regional areas that are enrolled or intending to enrol in, an accredited/approved undergraduate or graduate entry Allied Health Course. Total scholarship value is up to $10,000 per full-time equivalent (FTE) year.
