Osteopathic Postgraduate Courses
Several avenues are available for postgraduate education in Osteopathy in Australia...
Postgraduate University Programs
Masters by research programs are available at both RMIT and VU. Upon successful completion of the Masters program, students are eligible to study for a Doctorate in Osteopathy.
RMIT also offers a Masters by coursework in Paediatrics. This is a three year program which may be studied by long distance learning. The third years of this program involves a minor thesis. Please contact the relevant institutions for more information on these programs.
Seminars
The Australian Osteopathic Association on an ongoing basis provides seminars.
Evening Seminar programs (ESP) are provided three to four times per year in each state capital city by individual State Branches of the AOA. Contact the relevant State Council for details.
In addition to the ESP, the AOA holds an annual conference. The aim of the Convocation is to bring Osteopaths together from around Australia and from other parts of the world in a seminar, which combines both academic and social aspects. The AOA convocation provides a blend of international osteopathic practitioners with the opportunity to exchange ideas and develop global relationships for the betterment of the profession. The AOA Convocation has recently been held in Australia, Fiji and in New Zealand.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
It is the aim of the Australian Osteopathic Association to continually improve and standardise the professional competency of its members. The primary objective of continuing professional development is continued excellence in the delivery of osteopathic health care services to the public.
It is the purpose of the AOA CPD Committee to formulate, oversee and implement guideline accreditation procedures, data collection and storage with respect to the AOA’s members continuing professional development.
For more details on the CPD program, please contact Federal Office.
